TVSs (Transient Voltage Suppressors) are a type of diode that works as an electrical protection component, mainly used to protect electronic circuits against overloads or transient voltage environments and they are widely applied in many products. CPDUCXVOUS-HF is a high speed TVS diode with superior performance. This paper will provide an overview of its application field and working principle.
Application Field
The CPDUCXVOUS-HF is a high power surface mount TVS diode suited for a wide range of applications. It is designed for automotive, industrial and other applications where transient voltage surges might occur. It can be used for the protection of automotive control systems, electronic equipment and RF receivers from voltage transients and overvoltage caused by inductive switching, load dumping or electrostatic discharges. At least two CPDUCXVOUS-HF diodes should be used in parallel or one per switch junction as protection components due to their high energy capabilities.
Working Principle
The CPDUCXVOUS-HF has a SOD-323 ultra-small package and is composed mainly of Zener diodes connected in Reverse Avalanche Breakdown Mode (RABM). When the input voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage of the diode, the P-N junction will start to conduct current. This will happen in a short period of time (nanoseconds) and the CPDUCXVOUS-HF will be able to limit the transient voltage and suppress overvoltage pulses, protecting the circuit from damage. Because of its low capacitance and high break down voltage, the CPDUCXVOUS-HF is ideal for TVS applications in DC-DC converters, power electronics and adapters.
When the transient voltage exceeds the clamping voltage of the diode, the P-N junction enters into a high current state, limiting the voltage and clamping it to the breakdown voltage of the diode. This helps protect the circuit from overvoltage and transient voltage. The CPDUCXVOUS-HF is capable of suppressing up to 20,000V and is suitable for extreme conditions.
The CPDUCXVOUS-HF is an ideal protection component for applications where transient overvoltages can occur due to its low capacitance, wide operating temperature range and high breakdown voltage. Besides its application on inductive switching, load dumping, or electrostatic discharges, thanks to its robustness and versatility, the CPDUCXVOUS-HF can be used for many different TVS protection applications.
