CY2303SXC are highly integrated clock generators and frequency synthesizers designed to simplify clock system design and to improve system performance while minimizing board space. Built with a High Speed CMOS process, they are well suited to applications requiring multiple low skew and low jitter clock sources.

The CY2303SXC has twelve differential outputs, each of which can be configured for either LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling) or LVPECL (Low Voltage Positive-Edge Clock Logic) with clock frequencies from 250 MHz up to 500 MHz. The device features an input PLL (Phase Locked Loop), a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and a jitter cleaner circuit for optimal clock performance.

The application field for this integrated master clock generator includes PC systems, Networking Equipment, Storage Devices, and Event Timers. It is also used for System Clock Generation and Distribution, Clock Synthesis and Phase Locked Loop Clock Generation.

The working principle of the device is based on the concept of a PLL. Basically, the PLL provides a method of generating and controlling a signal, typically a clock signal, whose frequency and phase characteristics can be dynamically changed as required. This signal, the VCO output, is then conditioned and output, most often in the form of an all digital clocks and symbol timing signals, providing the necessary timing interface for digital systems.
