CY2309SXC-1 is a Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers component from Cypress Semiconductor. It converts one crystal frequency into any number of selectable output frequencies organized into different groups, allowing you to choose the group with the output frequency that matches your system requirements. It is also capable of providing outputs with different voltage levels, allowing it to be used in mixed voltage applications.
The main component that enables the CY2309SXC-1 to provide different frequency outputs is a Phase Locked Loop (PLL). A PLL is an electronic circuit consisting of a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and a phase detector. The PLL is used to generate a signal with a frequency that is some multiple of the input signal frequency. In the case of the CY2309SXC-1, the PLL is used to generate multiple output frequencies from a single input crystal frequency.
The CY2309SXC-1 has two input terminals to receive an external crystal and provide a high frequency, low-ripple output. The part can generate output frequencies from 1 MHz to 80 MHz. All of the output frequencies come from the Internal Clock Synthesizer, using an internal 16-bit shift register, divided by an output divider to generate any output frequency from 1MHz to 80MHz.
The working principle of the CY2309SXC-1 involves the use of a dual modulus prescaler. The prescaler is connected to a phase-frequency detector. The encoder also consists of two 16-bit registers, which control the output frequencies. The first register sets the output frequency and the second register sets the duty cycle of the output frequency.
In order to get a reliable output frequency and duty cycle, the second register is connected to a programmable frequency divider in order to divide the main synthesis clock. The frequency divider changes the output frequency in increments of 1 MHz and the duty cycle in steps of 0.5%.
Once the instruction for the output frequency is set in the first register, the prescaler will divide the main clock into two signals, one with a frequency of 32kHz and the other of 1MHz. Each signal is then used to set the output frequency. The 1MHz signal is sent to the programmable frequency divider which divides the signal in order to generate the output frequency. The 32 kHz signal is sent to the phase frequency detector which compares the two signals and adjusts the feedback loop in order to maintain the correct output frequency and duty cycle.
The output of the CY2309SXC-1 can be used in various applications such as clocks, timing source for microcontrollers, digital signal processors, as well as in embedded systems that require a single clock frequency source. It provides an accurate, low-ripple output and is ideal for use in a wide variety of applications.
