A DFLZ15-TP diode is a single-diode Zener diode device. It is used to provide a very precise voltage regulation and act as a voltage reference. The maximum power dissipation helps reduce premature failure and increases the performance of the device.

Working Principle:A Zener diode is a particular type of diode that is designed to conduct current in the reverse direction when the voltage applied to the diode is more than the breakdown voltage. It consists of two regions — the P-type and the N-type regions. When the voltage applied is more than the breakdown voltage, the electric field between the P-type region and the N-type region is sufficiently strong enough to cause electrons to cross the junction, thus creating an avalanche breakdown. This breakdown voltage is very precise and can be used as a reference voltage.

When the Zener diode is forward biased, the current passing through it is very small, as the diode is highly resistive to current flow. This extremely small current passing through the diode is known as the Zener current or the knee current. This current and the breakdown voltage of the diode determine the voltage regulation for the Zener diode.

The Zener diode is capable of providing a very stable, low-noise and low-distortion voltage reference over a wide range of temperatures, currents, and voltages. Some Zener diodes are designed to achieve a higher power rating — up to 1.5 Watts in this particular case.
