When the diode is reverse biased, meaning that the positive terminal is connected to negative and the negative to positive terminal, normally no current will be able to flow (except a small initial leakage current that tends to zero in a few nanoseconds). In this case, the higher the resistance of the external circuit is, the quicker the switching time of the rectifier.
