The DS1683S+ is an incredibly versatile and comprehensive Real Time Clock (RTC) module which can be used in virtually any commercial, industrial or academic application. As the name suggests, the DS1683S+ is specifically designed to generate time-stamped data in real-time to keep track of events, even when the system power is off.
At its core, the module is based around a 32.768 kHz crystal oscillator and a micro-controller. The combination of these two components, in addition to onboard RAM and other hardware, enables the module to accurately measure and keep track of the time of day according to multiple standard clock formats. It is also capable of keeping accurate track of day, date and year data.
The DS1683S+ is a high accuracy and extremely robust timekeeping solution boasting an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, a standby power supply voltage of 2.3V to 5.5V and an operational power supply voltage of 2.7V to 5.5V. These features allow the DS1683S+ to be used in a wide variety of application environments.
The DS1683S+ is also equipped with multiple programmable alarms which can be configured to generate an interrupt when a user-defined calendar event occurs. This can be used to trigger a wide range of events and activities as defined by the application.
The module includes two counter registers which can be used to hold an elapsed time value which can be read when necessary by the user. This allows the DS1683S+ to be used in various timing applications, including counting down from specified intervals, measuring how long a device has been in use for and many other functions requiring the ability to accurately measure amounts of elapsed time.
The DS1683S+ supports a wide range of applications including embedded system timekeeping, calendar synchronization in industrial control systems, precision interval timers or counters, GPS or wireless measurements, calendar-based data logging, data synchronisation and other time-dependent communication and data logging tasks.
