DSA2-18A is a single rectifier diode and belongs to the family of semiconductor devices that rectify electrical signals to pass selected frequency components. It is typically used in the switching power supplies of high power circuits and other applications demanding low capacitance and fast switching. The basic arrangement of this diode consists of two diodes connected in opposite orientations on a common substrate. The anode of one diode is connected to the cathode of the other and vice versa. This arrangement forms a kind of buck converter circuit. The anode and cathode of the two diodes are both connected to a single electrical grid. The DSA2-18A is designed to accept AC signals up to a peak voltage of 1800 volts and delivers voltage conversion of 1.2V-V. Its total capacitance is 181pF and total forward recovery time is less than 180 ns. The diode’s package size is 0.39 in. x 0.29 in. x 0.161 in.The DSA2-18A can be used in a variety of switching power supply applications, such as motor drive applications, power conditioning, consumer power converters, power supplies, ATM machines, LCD monitors, networking equipment and more.The diode’s working principle can be summarized in four steps as follows:Step 1: When an AC signal is applied to the diode’s anode and cathode, the alternating current will flow through the diode. Step 2: When the anode voltage exceeds the cathode voltage, the diode is said to be forward biased and current will flow through the diode. The current will flow from the anode to the cathode.Step 3: When the anode voltage is lower than the cathode voltage, the diode is said to be reverse biased and current will not flow through the diode. Step 4: The combination of steps 1, 2 and 3 results in the diode’s rectifying properties allowing it to filter out the alternating current, leaving only the desired direct current.The DSA2-18A’s fast switching, low capacitance and peak voltage requirements make it an excellent choice for a variety of power applications.
