Aluminum electrolytic capacitors (aka aluminium electrolytic capacitors or AL-E-caps) are polarized capacitors whose anode electrode is made of a pure aluminum foil with an etched surface. The electrolyte, which covers the etched foil, serves as the second electrode of the capacitor. Capacitance values range from 1µF (10-6 F) to 2,200µF (10-6 F) with a working voltage range from 4V DC to 275V DC. Applications for aluminum electrolytic capacitors include surge protection, power supplies, over-voltage protection, DC-DC conversion, single-ended power supplies, as well as high-end audio.
