Evaluation Boards - Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are widely used in applications such as industrial manufacturing, computers and consumer electronics. The EVAL-AD7785EBZ is a high precision, low power, integrated data converter evaluation board designed to meet the exacting demands of today’s data converter applications.

This evaluation board targets the AD7785, a 2-channel, simultaneous sampling, high precision, low power 16-bit sigma-delta ADC capable of converting DC signals from a -10V to +10V range. At 0.37mW/channel power consumption, the AD7785 offers a number of features that make it ideal for handheld systems, medical instrumentation or datacenter applications.

The EVAL-AD7785EBZ evaluation board comprises a flexible evaluation platform designed to simplify the usage of the AD7785. It is supplied as a complete package which includes the Evaluation Board and the Evaluation Board User Guide. The Evaluation Board User Guide provides instructions for connecting a signal to be measured and configuring the evaluating systems.

Its main features are:

The operation of the EVAL-AD7785EBZ is based on the AD7785 which utilizes a synchronous successive approximation (SSA) architecture. The AD7785 uses an SAR design for the post-processing of its output signal. This technique uses a reference voltage as a comparison point and converts the analog signal into a corresponding digital representation. An advantage of this method is its low power consumption and noise tolerance.

The EVAL-AD7785EBZ can also be used in conjunction with an external microcontroller. External control is available via the I²C interface, SCL and SDA pins which allowed fine-tuning of certain parameters. In addition, an Active Measurement Mode (AMM) pin allows the input signal to be gated for automatic averaging.
