The EVAL5945A Evaluation Board is a DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-line) SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) evaluation board, designed to evaluate the performance of Renesas Electric Corporation\'s RA5945 and RA5945A power supply controllers. It can further help understand and design AC/DC and DC/DC SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) solutions, with the ultimate goal of producing high efficiency, low noise solutions.

The EVAL5945A offers an adjustable voltage range from 3.3V up to 60Vdc, delivering a maximum output current of 6A continuous, or up to 10A peak. This makes it well suited to a wide range of applications, including telecommunications, portable medical equipment, hand-held devices, general automation and consumer electronics.

The EVAL5945A board uses the RA5945 or RA5945A controller IC, which provides an adjustable frequency PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) control circuit. The switching frequency is adjustable from 25KHz to 500KHz, depending on the load requirements. The maximum PWM frequency can also be adjusted up to 1Mhz, improving system efficiency and minimizing component costs. The RA5945/A controllers also provide over-voltage protection, over-current protection and thermal shutdown protection circuits.

The RA5945/A controller is designed using the CMOS (Complimentary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) process, which offers excellent performance in terms of speed, power consumption and low EMI emissions.
