EVALHVLED805 Application Field and Working PrincipleEVALHVLED805 is an evaluation board developed by Texas Instruments, intended for single color, high voltage LED driving. The board demonstrates the driver and design concepts in a complete and simple package, making it suitable for research, development, and testing of LED-related applications.The EVALHVLED805 evaluation board utilizes the exponential characteristics of a high voltage switch and a simple, patent-pending voltage-output driver architecture to control the current output at multiple step levels. Using a feedback reference, the EVALHVLED805 includes higher levels of efficiency and adaptability to LED types and geometries. This design approach can reduce the complexity of LED driving applications, thus making them more reliable and cost-effective. The EVALHVLED805 board is designed for applications such as automotive lighting, industrial lighting, and general lighting. The board requires an external supply of 0.5V to 5V in order to provide the necessary voltage for driving the LEDs. The board can control up to four strings of LEDs in series, each with a maximum power of 2.5W, allowing for up to 10W of LED power. The EVALHVLED805 evaluation board uses a buck-boost circuit to regulate the LED power output. The buck-boost circuit onboard is capable of supplying up to 40V DC across the LED strings, which allows for improved efficiency when driving multiple LED strings in series. The EVALHVLED805 evaluation board includes an onboard LED detector that helps in detecting the voltage across each LED string. The EVALHVLED805 includes an under-voltage lockout, a over-temperature protection circuit, and a brown-out protection circuit. The EVALHVLED805 board also features an LED temperature monitor, which helps protect LED strings from overheating. The EVALHVLED805 evaluation board incorporates a variety of features to make LED driving applications more reliable and cost-efficient. The board offers an efficient buck-boost circuit for multistring applications, an onboard LED detector for uniform lighting, and safety-related features for increased reliability.
