EVALPM6680 is an evaluation board for a full-featured, mid-power, boost switching power supply. It is designed to help engineers get up and running quickly when evaluating Infineon\'s PM6680 power stage solution. EVALPM6680 uses the TinyK22 as an example of how to use the PM6680 when developing sophisticated demanding and dynamic switching power supply solutions, which need higher CPU performance. EVALPM6680 can be used to evaluate high-voltage power stages, isolated DC/DC stages, linear regulators, power factor correction, or voltage control applications.
In a typical application, EVALPM6680 operates as a boost converter, operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). Its output voltage, Vout, is varied by adjusting the reference voltage, Vref. The device responds quickly to changes in load, without the use of an input filter. The output voltage can also be controlled using a voltage feedback loop. The EVALPM6680 board includes a linear regulator, which is used to generate a stable reference voltage and a 4-A MOSFET, which is used to switch the FETs.
The main components of the EVALPM6680 are the PM6680 power stage, TinyK22 controller, FETs and linear regulator. The PM6680 switching power stage IC integrates all of the major components of a power supply into a single package, providing an accurate, reliable, and ultra-low component count solution. This IC provides a very high efficiency and handles up to 4.2 A of continuous current. It operates at a frequency of 250 kHz and drives the switching FETs in parallel.
