The FJAF6910TU consists of two N-type semiconductor regions which are separated by a thin layer of P-type material. It works on three mode of operation namely Cut-off mode, Active mode and Saturation mode. This transistor can be operated by varying the biasing conditions.

In cut-off mode, the base-emitter junction is forward biased and the base-collector junction is reverse biased. In this mode, the collector current is zero and the transistor does not conduct current. This is due to the fact that the base current is less than the required base current for collector current to flow.

In Active mode, both the base-emitter junction and the base-collector junction are forward biased. This mode allows collector current to flow and the transistor operates as an amplifier. In this mode, the collector current is proportional to the base current and the amplification factor of the transistor is the ratio of collector current to base current.

In Saturation mode, both the base-emitter junction and the base-collector junction are forward biased and the collector current is very large and almost equal to the emitter current. In this mode, the transistor is fully saturated and acts like a closed switch.
