The FlexARM FSFR1600L is a high performance integrated gate driver featuring an advanced isolated flyback controller. This is a standalone IC that is designed to provide an economical and efficient solution for applications required high voltage, low power offline motor drive applications. Specifically, it includes protection for overvoltage, overcurrent and over temperature.
Application Field
The FSFR1600L is mainly applied to control AC house-hold appliances, such as fans and pumps, which have low power and high voltage requirements. It has wide operation ranges up to 850V DC with built-in over-voltage and over-current protection. Additionally, its integrated programmable system allows for various functionalizations, such as speed control, soft start, over-voltage protection, over-current protection, fans braking and PID control. Together, these functions make FSFR1600L suitable for an array of applications, including motor drive, low power DC motor control and robotics.
Working Principle
As an integrated flyback controller, the FSFR1600L features a Flyback Converter Mode, which uses a single switching device and a non-center-taped transformer to transfer energy from the input to the output. It works together with the field rectifier, depending on the applications the controller can drive both the voltage loop and the current loop to achieve seamless control.
To start the flyback mode, the controller first starts a soft start circuit and then increases the speed of the output voltage, current and system to reach the desired value. During the operation, the flyback Driver can control the current and voltage output through the off-time control and the open loop voltage mode. This allows for precision control and power adjustment.
Once the operation is finished and the current and voltage outputs reach the desired values, the controller will enter into a power save mode and reduce the switching frequency, and the switching duty cycle, leading to lower energy consumptions, shorter time of powering-down and longer operational life.
The FSFR1600L is designed to provide reliable and efficient power conversion with minimal power spend in low to medium power motor driving applications. This makes it ideal for house-hold appliance and motor drive applications.
