The FSFR1700L integrated linear-mode power switch is part of Fairchild Semiconductor\'s portfolio of Power Management ICs (PMICs). The FSFR1700L is an advanced AC/DC (A-D) converter providing regulated output voltages suitable for use in SMPS applications. It is optimized for offline, switched-mode power supplies with output levels between 0.9V and 15V, and power ratings up to 120W.
The FSFR1700L is designed to achieve a very low output voltage ripple, high efficiency, and low standby power consumption. It integrates a current-mode PWM controller with a high-current power switch, a synchronous rectifier, and other supporting components such as high speed Schottky diodes, ESD and OVP protection circuits, and steady-state current limiting.The FSFR1700L is designed to drive the power switch in active peak current mode, resulting in improved dynamic characteristics and fast transient response. A single-stage AC/DC converter is used to generate the required regulated output voltage. In this single-stage configuration, the FSFR1700L’s current-mode PWM controller senses the output current and modulates the power switch duty cycle accordingly. The control loop is further enhanced through the use of fast response output voltage sensing, providing fast and accurate control.
The FSFR1700L features several protection circuits, including under-voltage lockout (UVL) and over-voltage protection (OVP). The OVP circuitry protects the output from over-voltage events caused by a fault or other excessive power condition. The UVL circuit monitors the output voltage and ensures that the output voltage does not become too low, which is essential for proper operation at light load conditions.
