The FSFR1600XS is a PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers designed by Fairchild Semiconductor. It is a self-contained AC-DC switching power supply providing a 6A, 80V full-range input, 5V/6A output and no-load operation with a typical efficiency of 87%.

Working Principle
The FSFR1600XS works by synchronizing the switching of the bridge rectifiers, the switching of the internal low dropout (LDO) regulators, the power factor correction, the load disconnection and the protection features in order to regulate a constantly stable DC output in the event of an AC line transient.
The FSFR1600XS utilizes high-side rectifier sensing with constant on-time (COT) control to regulate the output voltage. The COT control method guarantees a constant output voltage that is independent of switching frequency and line voltage. Therefore, the FSFR1600XS can support full 6A load up to 80V.
The internal LDO regulators further ensure that the circuit can still guarantee a 5V/6A DC output if the load demands are within the specified operating conditions. In no-load conditions, the FSFR1600XS will automatically switch off its internal circuitry. This design allows the FSFR1600XS to maintain a no-load operation with a typical efficiency of 87%.
Furthermore, the FSFR1600XS offers an excellent protection scheme, which includes a short circuit protection and a six layer over voltage protection. Thanks to the sophisticated design, the FSFR1600XS is able to protect the end products from line transients, component aging as well as component failure.
