GTL2107PW,118 is a logic-level translator with adjustable level shifting. It is a source-synchronous, low-voltage, different voltage system bidirectional, error-free data transmission translator. The device is ideal for inter-board and inter-system communications where differing voltages fast, error-free data transmission is required.
Application Field:
GTL2107PW,118 is mainly used to bridge between two logic systems that have apposite supply voltages. In some cases, the device is used as an isolator to remove ground noise or track potential between the two systems. The device can also be used to interface between high speed, low voltage logic and lower speed, higher voltage logic.
The exact application field for the GTL2107PW,118 is based on the logic families and voltage levels used. Different applications of this device include general logic-level translator between logic families, 3.3V to 5V translator, 5.0V to 3.3V, RS-232 level translator, signal-conditioning isolator, electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, data signal line protection, and system compatibility.
Working Principle:
The GTL2107PW,118 has two outputs, Vout1 and Vout2, to interface the two circuits. The device is designed to translate the voltage levels of the two different systems driving the device. The device can switch between the two circuits, depending on the power source supplying one of the circuits.
In addition, the device has features such as Hysteresis, allowing for tight timing control and superior performance. The Hysteresis feature minimizes ringing and unwanted reflections between the two systems. In addition, the device has Auto-MRS (Mux/RS Control) pins that are used to disable the logic of the device when one system is not actively using the translator.
The device works in the following way: when the voltage of one of the circuits rises above the Vth (threshold voltage) level, Vout1 changes its state accordingly, while Vout2 changes state after the voltage of the other circuit rises above its own threshold voltage. By this process, the GTL2107PW,118 translates one voltage into the other.
