Optoisolators are components consisting of an isolator and an optoelectronic device, such as a LED and integrated photodiode. An optoisolator, or opto-isolator, offers electrical isolation between two circuits, meaning that the circuits don\'t directly "talk" to each other. Instead, light is used to carry the communication.

The IL4217-X007 is a Triac/SCR output optoisolator that allows for a 4.2V to 15V DC input voltage to be completely isolated and then output as either a 6A Triac or 5A SCR. It utilizes a pair of LEDs that operate in parallel but in opposite spin directions (forward and reverse). These LED inputs use a bipolar current for accuracy and precision. It employs a monolithic design to provide the highest possible circuit integration, allowing for superior isolation between the input and output circuits.

The IL4217-X007 is an optoisolator especially suitable for applications that require fault-protected or mains isolated control. Its two LEDs in parallel can be used to provide a high-speed response time, including over current protection. The solution also provides a wide current range and flexible voltage operation from 4.2V to 15V.

The IL4217-X007 allows for burning control and the dimming of low voltage lighting such as LED lighting. It also offers pulse and phase angle control. In pulse control the dimming frequency can be adjusted from 500 Hz to 2 kHz. In phase angle dimming, the application has a simple and visual adjustment with on/off stable characteristics and steady dimming and brightening. Additionally, it can be extensively used in the motor speed control for AC induction motors, such as fans, pumps, and machinery.

The IL4217-X007 utilizes a simple two-wire logic connection. The first wire is connected to the input voltage via a Zener diode and a base-emitter of a transistor. The second wire is connected to the output, either a Triac or SCR. An LED on the optoisolator emits light when the current through the Zener diode exceeds the Zener voltage of the transistor. This light triggers the Triac or SCR output, which is connected to the input voltage. The light stays beamed until the voltage at the input decreases. The optical isolation created by the LED also eliminates the possibility of the output circuit overheating or breaking down due to the electrical input. This makes the device extremely safe and reliable.

The IL4217-X007 provides a significant advantage for applications that require complete isolation between the input and output components. Its extremely fast response time, wide current range and flexible voltage operation make it ideal for applications such as motor speed control, lighting control and over current protection.
