Introduction
IR3621F is a switching controller, which is designed for DC-DC converter applications. It is mainly used in 3-phase buck topology converters and designed to meet the needs of high-end computer, server and flat-panel displays fields. It uses advanced dynamic MOSFET control techniques, providing enhanced long-term accuracy, fast transient response, low noise operation and an extended range of output voltages.With its high switching frequency, this IC can also be used in a variety of new cost-saving power converter designs. Moreover, it integrates a broader range of features such as differential remote voltage sensing, internal soft start, overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and over temperature protection (OTP).Features
The IR3621F offers a number of features that make it an ideal choice for DC-DC converter applications. It covers up to 600V input voltage range, and its output voltage configurations are adjustable from 0.6V to 36V. The switching frequency can be adjusted from 50kHz to 1MHz to achieve the desired performance.The integrated differential remote voltage sense input offers excellent load regulation with high accuracy. The IR3621F also has two distinct frequency pins for controlling the output power stages. The internal soft-start circuitry prevents massive inrush current at start-up, enabling the user to reduce effects of input voltage transients.The device also has integrated protection features such as OVP and OTP. The overvoltage protection prevents excessive voltage, limiting the output voltage of the DC-DC converter to a safe level. The overtemperature protection monitors the temperature of the device and reduces it, during heavy loads.Working Principle
The IR3621F uses advanced dynamic MOSFET control technique to regulate the output voltage. It will rapidly detect, adapt and adjust the output voltage according to the changes in load. The voltage feedback of this device is directly connected to the VCC pin and then compared with a voltage reference.When the voltage reference is higher than the feedback voltage, the output voltage is decreased and vice versa. The difference between the reference and feedback voltage is called error voltage. A high-efficiency MOSFET is turned on to switch the converter when the error voltage is zero, and a low-loss MOSFET is turned off to break the current path when the error voltage is negative.The whole process is controlled by the PWM controller, which sets the switching frequency and determines how much power should be delivered by the output stage. The applied pulse width modulation techniques regulate the output voltage with desired accuracy.Conclusion
