Application Field

Working Principle

The regulation of output voltage is achieved through a voltage feedback loop and an error amplifier. The output voltage is set by comparing the internal reference voltage with the feedback voltage at the error amplifier. If the output voltage is too low, the duty cycle is increased until the output voltage reaches the regulation point. If the output voltage is too high, the duty cycle decreases until the output voltage reaches the reference voltage.
The purposes of over-current and over-voltage protection are to ensure system stability and ensure it complies with the required specifications. In order to meet the requirements of over- current protection, a sense resistor can be used to sense the current entering the switching FET and a comparator is used to monitor the voltage across the sense resistor. If the current is over the limit, the comparator will send a signal to the shutdown pin, disabling the MOSFET and preventing the system from overload. For over-voltage protection, a fractional resistor divider can be used to sense the output voltage and if the voltage exceeds the specified limit, the protection circuit will be activated to reduce the duty cycle and thus preventing the system from over-voltage.
In addition to over-current and over-voltage protections, the IR3637 also provides over temperature protection and failsafe protection to maximize system safety. The over temperature protection will be activated when the junction temperature exceeds the specified limit and the failsafe protection will be triggered by the loss of feedback control or voltage overload.
