Working Principle

The ISL6341ACRZ-T is a constant-on-time, multi-pulse buck switching regulator controlled by a self-optimizing, current-mode control loop. The constant-on-time controller provides a very fast line- and load-transient response, allowing for excellent loop stability and low output noise. The ISL6341ACRZ-T operates directly from a wide input voltage range of 3V to 14V and provides a regulated output voltage of 1.2V to 5.5V.The output voltage is set using an external resistor divider, while only an optional output capacitor is required to reduce output noise and ripple.The ISL6341ACRZ-T features a comprehensive set of features and protections to keep the power supply safe and reliable including output overvoltage protection, output overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and overtemperature protection.

Control Loop

The ISL6341ACRZ-T\'s constant-on-time control loop uses a variable duty cycle to maintain a constant output voltage. This is done by comparing the error amplifier output to an oscillator ramp to determine when the gate of the power switch should turn on. When the error amplifier output is less than the oscillator ramp voltage, the gate of the power switch is turned on and the inductor current ramps up until the output voltage is equal to the reference voltage. The control loop then turns off the power switch until the error amplifier output is lower than the oscillator ramp voltage again.The ISL6341ACRZ-T can also provide variable frequency operation to increase efficiency at light load current by modulating the frequency of the PWM charge pump.
