Working Principle of ISL6522CV-T

The working principle of ISL6522CV-T is relatively simple, but the exact implementation depends on the desired operating application. Instead of directly controlling the output voltage, the controller manages the current through the power switch. The preferred operating frequency is set by a resistor connected to the RT pin, resulting in a fixed frequency RC oscillator that is referenced against an internal bandgap voltage.

The buck (step-down) mode of operation is activated once the synchronization signal is detected. Then, the total output current (IOUT) is determined according to the set frequency and the voltage across the inductor (Vil). The maximum opertaing frequency is set by the FSO pin.

The output voltage is then set by controlling the on-time (ton) of the buck circuit according to the voltage feedback signal on the VFB terminal.The on-time is determined by the off-time (toff) and varies depending on the current feedback and PWM ramp. When a fault condition is detected, the system will go into a soft-start recovery process, where the output voltage is gradually restored.

By using a digitally-controlled buck converter, ISL6522CV-T is able to increase efficiency and regulate the output voltage precisely and quickly, thus making it the ideal choice for today\'s advanced power management applications.
