They usually contain all necessary elements on a single chip in order to assist the controlling and driving of the switches.The IXDF604SIA by IXYS Corporation is a high-efficiency, high-side automatically resetting, high voltage and high current IGBT and power MOSFET driver, designed to work with input control notch states of 3.3V, 5V and/or 12V. The device is packaged in standard SO-8 and TO-220-3 packages, and is compatible with most common gate port models.The IXDF604SIA is designed to be utilized in a variety of applications, including motor control and power conversion, automotive OEM applications, welding, uninterruptible power supplies, and consumer appliances. It provides a variety of features such as high-side source status monitoring, error signaling, programmable on-delay timer, programmable off-delay timer, and current shaping for quick switch control.It can act as a single-channel high-side gate driver and is capable of driving up to 5 Amps of peak load current with an output voltage range of 20V to 50V. It can be used to drive both IGBTs and MOSFETs, so there is no need to change the design or components when switching from one to the other. It operates at a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +125°C.The IXDF604SIA consists of two integrated analog circuits: an on-delay timer and an off-delay timer. On-delay timer activation is triggered whenever the gate is driven high and off-delay timer is triggered whenever the gate is driven low. Both on-delay and off-delay timers are programmable and also feature programmable current limit parameters.In addition, the IXDF604SIA also offers a high-side source status monitoring (HSSM) feature which allows for real-time monitoring of the source voltage, current and temperature. The HSSM module can also detect short and open circuit conditions, thus providing the drive circuit with the means of safe and reliable operation.By integrating all these features and combining them with power MOSFET and IGBT switching, the IXDF604SIA presents itself as one of the most capable gate drivers currently available. It allows for a wider range of applications compared to other conventional solutions and is more robust and reliable as well.
