TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) diodes are used to provide small-scale protection for circuits from overvoltage surges. The JANTX1N6105 is a popular diode in the range of TVS diode products. With its wide range of effective working voltages and its fast response time, the device is suitable for many applications.
The JANTX1N6105 is a unidirectional TVS diode, which is most commonly used in circuit protection applications. It is designed to protect sensitive components from overvoltage and transient or lightning strikes on power supplies and data lines. The device can handle up to 225A peak pulse current and is used in series with a resistor to limit any continuous current. The device is designed with a wide and uniform breakdown voltage range of 5V to 31 V and does not activate until the breakdown voltage is exceeded.
The device also has a very low capacitance of 1.2pF and can effectively clamp shock voltages up to 33V at 225A. The device also features a very fast response time of 10ns and is available in a variety of package sizes and configurations. The common packages are DO−35 (SOD−323), SOT−23 (SC−70/SHS−5) and SC−70/SOT−323. The device has a maximum reverse leakage (IR) of 10μA and an operating temperature range of −65°C to 175°C.
The JANTX1N6105 is ideal for protection in many applications. These include protecting battery-powered handheld devices, in automotive applications for protecting power supplies and data lines from electrical spikes, electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference, and in telecommunication and industrial applications. It is also used to protect sensitive components in data-critical and mission-critical systems.
The circuit working principle of the JANTX1N6105 is relatively simple. When the transient voltage or surge exceeds the breakdown voltage, the device is hit and the voltage across the the TVS diode suddenly increases. The current starts to flow through the diode and is limited by the series resistor. The voltage then quickly decreases and reaches a steady value, clamping
