As a result, the anode and cathode are no longer connected and no current flows through the diode.

When the anode is connected to a negative voltage source, electrons are repelled and cannot enter the n-type junction. Thus, the anode and cathode are connected, and current starts flowing through the diode. This phenomenon is called “forward bias”.

The JANTX1N914 can also be used for reverse conduction, or “reverse bias”. When the anode is connected to a negative voltage source, the electrons are repelled and cannot enter the n-type junction, but they are attracted to the p-type junction. As a result, the anode and cathode are no longer connected, and no current flows through the diode. This phenomenon is called “reverse bias”.
