KA7906 is an advanced linear voltage regulator with low standby current and low dropout voltage. It is mainly used in low power applications such as notebook computers, servers, communications equipments, industrial equipment and home electrical appliances.

The KA7906 is a three-terminal adjustable output voltage regulator capable of supplying up to 1.5A of output current. The output voltage is adjusted by using a resistive divider from input voltage to output voltage. It features a low dropout voltage, typical 0.5V at 1Aoutput current. Also, the device has a thermal shutdown feature that limits the junction temperature of the pass transistor to 160℃.

The KA7906 includes two error-amplifier stages, which provides loop compensation, gain select and input offset voltage adjustment. The reference terminal has a guarded ground which ensures that the reference voltage is not disturbed by noise or transients on the ground return path. The enable terminal is used to turn off the device in order to reduce the supply current consumption to less than 1uA.

The KA7906 operates either in voltage mode or current mode. In the voltage mode, the output is regulated to the reference voltage on the adjustment pin. In the current mode, the output current is regulated to the reference voltage on the adjustment pin. The voltage mode is better suited to line regulation, while the current mode is best for load regulation.

KA7906 is protected from a variety of abnormalities, including output over-voltage, output open-loop, output under-voltage, over-power, over-temperature and reverse bias conditions. The device also has an output voltage accuracy of 1% over-temperature and is immune to the errors caused by capacitive load transients.

KA7906 can operate from input voltage up to 24V and output voltage from 1.2V up to 15V. It operates from a single 5V and 3.3V input supply and maintains power supply rejection ratio of 60dB. The device is available in a variety of packages, including PQFN3x3-14L, and TO-220, with a thermal resistance of 1.7°C/W, DC/DC efficiency of up to 96%, and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
