Working Principle:
The L5974AD is a non-synchronous step-down switch mode voltage regulator with a peak current mode control. It is designed to convert an input voltage range from 3V to 30V into a fixed output voltage of your choice with the maximum output current of 2.25A.
The L5974AD is composed of an internal high-side MOSFET and an internal low-side MOSFET. The high-side MOSFET is connected to the input voltage, while the low-side MOSFET is connected to ground. A current sense resistor is connected to the sensing pin of the low-side MOSFET to sense the output current which is used to regulate the output voltage.
In operation, the L5974AD receives the input voltage and uses the current sense resistor to sense the output current. The output voltage is regulated by comparing the sensed current with a reference voltage such that any change in the output voltage is compensated by adjusting the PWM duty cycle. The PWM signal then drives the internal MOSFETs, controlling the output voltage and current. With a maximum switching frequency of up to 500kHz, the L5974AD is able to reach a high efficiency, low noise operation, and an excellent line and load transient response.
