PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators
The L5975AD is a buck- boost switching voltage regulator with an integrated power MOSFET. Designed to provide an adjustable and steady output voltage, it’s suitable to provide an intermediate voltage to DC motors, capacitive loads, and linear loads from a single supply or from the battery.
Application Field
The L5975AD is designed for mobile applications in charging circuits for portable devices and battery powered systems. It’s also suitable for other applications like off-line converters, DC motors, industrial automation, laboratory and instrumentation equipment, battery powered appliances, industrial/communication power supplies, solenoid drivers, and battery chargers.
Working Principle
The L5975AD allows the implementation of either a voltage inverter application or, alternatively, a voltage doubler application with built-in synchronous rectification. When the L5975AD is employed as an inverter, its output voltage is lower than its input voltage, while when it is employed as a voltage doubler its output voltage is higher than its input voltage.
In order to optimize its performance, the L5975AD also features a modulated loop architecture, defined as a current mode control loop optimized to obtain a high output voltage accuracy over the operating temperature range. A wide power range can be implemented with the same-sized package, by just changing one resistor which acts as a sense for the output current.
The output voltage accuracy is further improved by the Built-in Programmable Soft-Start Loop (BSPLS) and an adjustable under voltage lockout (UVLO). The SS pin allows the user to set the soft-start time with an external capacitor. The user also has three options to set the OVP. A flag pin indicates the device status like (UVLO, OVP, Output Discharge, etc). Also, a signal pin allows to monitor the power stage current.
