The L6728ATR is a dc-dc switching controller specifically designed to provide flexibility when controlling the output voltage of step-down power converters. This integrated circuit is a high performance two-phase buck controller capable of operating at 700kHz or 1.2MHz. This fast frequency combined with its 180° driving allows for a high efficiency controller with minimal output voltage ripple.
The L6728ATR is an ideal power source for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications. As an automotive application, the L6728ATR can be used for 12V/5V conversion or 24V/12V conversion with its integrated Soft-Start, Delay and Mode-Control logic. It is designed with open-loop control and a fast, adaptive loop-compensation network. As an industrial application, the L6728ATR can be used for a wide range of voltage and current applications including 24V/3.3V, 48V/3.3V and 12V/1.8V conversion.
The L6728ATR includes five integrated protection features: output overvoltage, output undervoltage, die over-temperature, MOSFET driver undervoltage and soft start. These features ensure the controller operates safely while providing robust system protection.
The L6728ATR working principle is based on two-phase step-down regulation. Two power switches, one PWM and one synchronous rectifier, alternate their states to keep output voltage steady. The precision feedback voltage regulator includes an on-chip voltage reference and error amplifier capable of driving multiple external MOSFETs, diodes, and pass transistors.
The controller also has a fast, adaptive loop compensation network with a dynamic loop gain adjustment option that allows for different external components. The adaptive network enables the controller to dynamically adjust the loop compensation based on the system topology, input voltage, switching frequency, or load conditions.
The controller is available in a 14-pin PowerSO-10 package, making it ideal for space-constrained applications. The L6728ATR provides flexible, dynamic, and precise power-conversion control, and is a reliable, economical solution for a variety of applications.
