L6728TR Application Field and Working Principle
The L6728TR is a monolithic integrated circuit forming part of the PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Controllers family of control products. It is intended to control and regulate the output of DC-DC converters, direct-current isolation modules and high-density switched-mode power supplies (SMPS).
The underlying principle of the operation of the L6728TR is based on a type of buck-boost DC-DC converter in which a voltage source is switched from low to high ‘on-time’ by means of a pulse-width-modulator (PWM). The voltage source is regulated by adjusting the corresponding ‘on-time’ pulse-width. The device is affected by input and output voltages, current consumption and the internal temperature of the chip.
Besides the voltage control, the circuit provides a number of protections aimed to ensure safe functioning of the DC-DC converter, such as undervoltage lockout, overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown.
