Working Principle

The LAN9730I-ABZJ-TR USB to Ethernet controller uses a bridge ASIC chip to convert the USB 2.0 host port to 10/100/1000 Ethernet. The bridge ASIC performs the functions of a local area network (LAN) controller in converting between the signals of the USB and the Ethernet and providing protocol mapping between the two. The bridge ASIC also supports the full-duplex transmission and reception of data between the two types of networks, and supports the flow control protocols (such as flow control, dynamic threshold adjustment and request-to-send/clear-to-send protocol) of both networks. In addition, it also provides power management and clock power control functions to enable efficient power utilization.

Once the LAN9730I-ABZJ-TR controller is plugged into the USB port, an Ethernet connection is automatically established. The device supports all the features of an Ethernet connection, such as auto-negotiation, auto-MDI/MDIX, auto-discovery, and Wake-on-LAN. In addition, it supports advanced features such as jumbo frames and IEEE 1588.
