Working Principle
At the heart of the LCE20-E3/73 is a bidirectional diode. This is connected in parallel with a low-capacitance ESD suppression varistor - also known as a Transverse Energy Suppressor (TES). The combination creates both a low-capacitance and low-impedance path that facilitates the flow of energy during transient events.
When overvoltage discharges occur, the TES clamping device creates a low-impedance path directly to ground. This provides an escape route for the surge of energy, without damaging the sensitive electrical components or circuits. The bidirectional diode helps to protect agains currents flowing in either direction— increasing the level of protection the LCE20-E3/73 provides.
In addition to its low capacitance, the LCE20-E3/73 has the added benefit of being highly resistant to thermal shock, and so it is also capable of protecting against voltage spikes associated with rapid temperature changes. This makes the device particularly advantageous in hot and cold environments.
