LM25037QMTX/NOPB Application Field and Working Principle
The LM25037QMTX/NOPB is an advanced, dedicated-mode monolithic switching controller suitable for use in an off-line flyback power supply. The LM25037QMTX/NOPB features cycle-by-cycle peak current limit, adjustable soft-start, programmable cycle-by-cycle OVLO, and comprehensive protection including latch off, cycle-by-cycle current limit, programmable hiccup mode over current protection (OCP), and OVLO.
The LM25037QMTX/NOPB is a mixed-signal analog/digital circuit and operates in a dedicated mode where it directly controls a power switches gate voltage from 0V to VCC. The output current is sensed with a low-value external sense resistor and fed back, through a Schmitt-trigger comparator, to drive the output terminal beyond the zero voltage passing boundary. This results in a robust soft-start and peak current limit. The device also offers an inherent boost control during start-up by controlling the slope of the rising power switch output voltage. This prevents excessive stored energy to be stored in the output components at start-up.
The device is designed to drive either an external N-channel MOSFET or a low-side N-channel MOSFET in a synchronous buck topology. It has a single-ended input, providing up to 2A output current, up to 960V breakdown voltage, and up to 150V transient voltage tolerance. The user sets the switching frequency over an adjustable range of 10 to 250kHz, and the voltage gain is adjustable over a range of 1V to 10V. The LM25037QMTX/NOPB has an integrated control loop compensation and proprietary soft-start function that enables fast, safe power-on and system stabilization.
The LM25037QMTX/NOPB has a complete range of fault protection and monitoring functions, including short-circuit protection with programmable hiccup mode, over-voltage protection with auto-restart, and over-temperature protection. The device can operate over a wide range of input voltages from 4.5V to 70V, and is capable of achieving efficiencies of over 95% for low-cost and environmentally friendly designs.
