LM27402MH/NOPB is a synchronous step-down DC-DC controller with Programmable Frequency and Soft-Start featuring integrated 60V/2.2A power MOSFETs. It integrates multiple functions and major peripherals building blocks into a single package, offering a solid solution for low cost, low output voltage, low standby current and no-load standby power applications. The LM27402MH/NOPB is ideal for applications such as PoPS, Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS), non-isolated power supplies, telecom data center, HVAC and industrial IO systems.

The LM27402MH/NOPB is designed to provide highest efficiency and low component count when used as a fixed frequency Synchronous buck controller. Thanks to its integrated features of fast Transient, Programmable Frequency and Soft-Start, this device is suitable for a wide range of applications, including point-of-load systems, server power, VRM and AC-DC power supplies.
Working principle
The LM27402MH/NOPB provides a complete solution for synchronous buck converter. It integrates dual high side PMOS, a programmable oscillator, high side current sense circuit, VCC and EN signal switch, power gating circuits and some proprietary functions. Synchronous buck converters are powered from positive bus voltage with the action of duty cycle embodied on the PMOS affixed with power control. The PMOS and NMOS acts as switches where the duty cycle controls the pulse width. A frequency divider and a counter are used to generate the pulses for the PMOS and NMOS to switch. An output voltage can also be obtained by adjusting the duty cycle.
The output switching and current sensing are controlled by the driver pin. The driver pin acts as an active switch with the ability to turn on and off the PMOS. The current drive strength can be adjusted with the output impedance, enabling low cost and high efficiency applications. The internal current sensing authenticates the output current to accurately control the output voltage regulation in the circuit.
The LM27402MH/NOPB features a flexible output supply. It has an adjustable soft-start and programmable frequency. The soft-start capability allows the converter to start at low load conditions, providing an efficient and reliable system. The on-chip programmable Oscillator further enhances the system power scaling capability and provides an improved regulation performance. The built-in logic supplies for both high-side and low-side devices provide the means for an efficient implementation of the proposed switching regulator.
The device also offers protection for short-circuit, overvoltage and thermal protection. The proprietary iDAPS (Intelligent Digital Access Protection System) is an integral part of the LM27402MH/NOPB controller.
