The LM2747MTC is a high performance synchronous buck controller, capable of delivering up to 3.5A of continuous output current. It is designed to operate from 4.75V to 5.25V, allowing it to be used in voltage-supplied applications. The switching frequency of the LM2747MTC can be adjusted from 200kHz up to 2.2MHz, providing the flexibility to meet the requirements of varied applications. The LM2747MTC is a monolithic integrated circuit that is constructed from standard 0.35 micron CMOS process technology.

The LM2747MTC operates with a variety of external components which allow it to provide an optimized performance. An external sense resistor is used to sense the current in the source inductor, while the voltage developed across this resistor is amplified by the error amplifier of the LM2747MTC. An external compensation network is then connected to the error amplifier to ensure stability and to ensure any oscillations are correctly damped.

The LM2747MTC can operate in a variety of modes, including voltage mode control and current mode control. In voltage mode control, the voltage applied to the power switch of the IC is controlled according to an external reference voltage. This reference voltage is compared with the feedback voltage from the load side and the error amplifier of the LM2747MTC will adjust the pulse width of the driver to the power switch accordingly. In current mode control, the current set by the current sense resistor is used as the reference; a comparison with the feedback voltage is then made by an external comparator. The error amplifier of the LM2747MTC then adjusts the pulse width of the driver to the power switch.

The LM2747MTC provides superior protection features, namely fault protection, over-current protection, over-voltage protection, and undervoltage lockout. The fault protection feature detects very fast faults in the output and will safely shut down the load under such conditions. The over-current protection ensures that the output current does not exceed the absolute maximum rating of 3.5A. The overvoltage protection feature enables the device to send a control signal to the power switch when the output voltage exceeds the set overvoltage level. Finally, the undervoltage lockout ensures that the output voltage does not fall below the level that is specified by the manufacturer.

The LM2747MTC is commonly used in applications such as LED driver, automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics. In LED driver applications, its small size, programmable switching frequency, and low power dissipation are beneficial in providing more efficient systems.
