The LM3017EVM board consists of a high power DC/DC converter capable of producing 18A continuous current output in an off-line SMPS. The LM3017EVM allows for easy evaluation of the LM3017 Synchronous Rectified Buck Controller (SRBC) integrated circuit (IC) and its associated components. The controllers have a very wide input and output voltage range, making them suitable for many applications. The LM3017EVM is designed for the evaluation of the LM3017 controllers used in synchronous buck converters, featuring integrated high- and low-side MOSFET gate drivers, making it a versatile and powerful evaluation platform.
The LM3017EVM board incorporates a wide range of circuits necessary for efficient operation of the synchronous buck regulator. The board includes features to facilitate the evaluation of the controller\'s dynamic current limit, power limitation, thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockout protection, over-temperature protection, and over-current protection. It also offers monitoring of input power supply voltage (VIN), and output voltage (VOUT) with on-board test points. The board also includes circuitry to evaluate load and line transient response of the synchronous buck converter.
The eval mode switch of LM3017EVM board allows for ease of loading of the converter with different voltage levels. The system designer can change the load voltage with the help of a simple switch to modify the set point of the output voltage. The control and power sections are isolated from each other with the help of a guard ring which limits the common mode noise at the input. This improves the overall performance and accuracy of the control loop.The LM3017EVM is designed to provide adjustable output voltage to match the user’s application requirements, and incorporates all the essential components needed to convert a wide input voltage range into a fixed output. The working principle of LM3017EVM is based on synchronous rectification and D-CAP2 Mode Control for fast transient response. The D-CAP2 Mode Control scheme of LM3017EVM is based on a one-cycle average slope compensation, which helps to reduce the average input and output ripple of the converter. The LM3017EVM board utilizes an adjustable current limit for fast and accurate protection of the power stage as well as MOSFETs in the event of an overload. Both fixed and adjustable output voltage options are available with the LM3017EVM board.
