LM306DR is a kind of linear comparator which follows a basic differential amplifier principle to compare two input voltages and indicating the result by its output state. Generally, it is a dual linear comparator with the ability to measure an altered input range of 0V to 10V. As its multiple functions and wide applications, LM306DR can be applied in many different fields.

Application Fields

a. Detection Circuits: LM306DR can be used in a various of detect circuit to evaluate the values of signals and then issue a warning or suggest an action. For instance, it can be used in automotive alert systems, such as the detection of car acceleration, air pressure, engine temperature, etc.

Working Principle

LM306DR contains two high gain input amplifiers to compare the two input signals and provide an indication on the output state. As a dual linear comparator, these two input amplifiers will compare the two input voltages with their reference inputs. When the input voltage of one amplifier is greater than the input voltage of the other, the output state will be operating. The operating voltage is set by the reference input voltage. Generally, its operating voltage can range from 0V to 10V.

When the input voltages of both amplifiers are equal, the output state will be shut-off, unless it\'s set to hysteresis. When the hysteresis is on, the output will switch from one state to another depending on the reference voltage. For instance, if the reference voltage is set at 5V, when the input voltage of one amplifier is greater than 5V, the output will be turn on, then, when the input voltage of one amplifier is less than 5V, the output will turn off.

The unique design of LM306DR ensures that it can detect small input voltages and provide accurate indications on the output state, which is why it is widely used in applications. With the help of this comparator, users can easily compare the values of two signal and understand the differences between them.
