AC-DC converters are electronic devices used to achieve efficient energy transformation from alternating current (AC) power to direct current (DC) power. This is done through rectifying AC current to DC current, as well as regulating the output voltage and current. The LM3020-9G is an AC-DC converter known for its high efficiency, wide temperature range and small size.

The LM3020-9G works by taking in AC input voltage, and then the rectifier will convert it to a DC signal with its diode bridge. The DC voltage is then adjusted to a programmable output voltage via the PWM control.
The LM3020-9G also has its built-in digital voltage feedback loop control. This includes internal circuitry modifications such as a gain-setting resistor, an error correction amplifier, an integrator, or a gain adjustment for the inner loop. The voltage regulation loop is closed by comparing the voltage feedback signal to the reference voltage, and then compensating the voltage output accordingly. The output current is indirectly regulated by increasing or decreasing switching duty cycle of the PWM signal.
The LM3020-9G also provides accurate and stable output current limit protection. The output current of each channel is monitored via a pair of sense resistors, where a sensing voltage proportional to the output current is generated. This sensed voltage is then compared with the pre-determined voltage threshold, and an output current limit signal is generated when the output current reaches its predefined limit. The PWM signal’s duty cycle is then limited in order to decrease the output current to its desired level.
