LM3420AM5-16.8/NOPB is a high-performance, 16.8-V, 500-mA, synchronous step-down DC–DC converter with integrated power switches, optimized for high-efficiency, small size, and easy implementation. The LM3420AM5-16.8/NOPB consists of two integrated power switches, an input and output voltage sensing circuit, a complete control logic, an SPI interface and an internal 5-bit reference divider which provides the voltage feedback signal. The device is powered by an internal linear regulator which derives its supply from the input supply, or from the output supply through the enable pin.
LM3420AM5-16.8/NOPB provides a high-precision output voltage and can be programmed with a 10-bit DAC for 1.08V~18.5V adjustment. And the device provides a flexible control interface, the SPI interface can be used for fast voltage programming. Furthermore, for fixed output applications, a 5-bit R-ladder DAC is supported to provide a fixed output voltage from 1.2V to 16.8V.
Setting up the LM3420AM5-16.8/NOPB is easy with a few external capacitors; and by taking advantage of the constant-on-time and current-mode architecture, users can achieve fast transient response and excellent line/load regulation. The device can operate with a wide input voltage range (4.5V to 16.8V) and delivers up to 500mA output current with a maximum frequency of 1.25MHz.
LM3420AM5-16.8/NOPB is also designed to have low power loss. When the device operates in PFM mode, the IC will automatically enter and exit power saving mode, enabling improved efficiency. This helps to extend the battery life and reduce system cost. Moreover, the device has over-temperature and over-voltage protection, enabling further system safety.
