Working Principle
The LM3502ITLX-25/NOPB LED driver, based on a buck topology, operates in either a fixed frequency or an adjustable frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode. In the PWM mode, the device is programmed with an active high ENABLE and a logic low SENSE. The LED current is sensed by applying a voltage to the SENSE pin, with a 1mA current source connected to ground, resulting in a voltage that corresponds to the LED current, which is regulated by the device.
In addition, the ExcaliburTM integrated circuit has a high-voltage lateral P-channel MOSFET, which acts as a clamp when the output voltage rises too high in applications that require overvoltage protection. By sensing the output voltage, the circuit can automatically turn off the P-channel MOSFET and shut down the output when necessary. This ensures a more reliable system, as it can protect the driver from any damage that may occur due to overvoltage conditions.
The LM3502ITLX-25/NOPB LED driver also features a wide range of safety features, including overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and fault reporting. It also includes programmable soft-start, which allows for a smooth ramp-up of the LED current and a current limit option, to ensure that the LED current is maintained within a safe range.
