Evaluation Boards - LED Drivers are a family of boards designed for providing a visual feedback of certain events or processes, such as light switch on/off, temperature control, power management, etc. There are different types of LED Drivers available in the market, such as LM3528TMEV, MR16, MTLLED, etc. In this article, we shall discuss LM3528TMEV Evaluation Board - LED Driver and its working principle.
The LM3528TMEV is an integrated evaluation board that features a dual-output, single-stage boost driver solution for driving LEDs in a digital display, TV backlighting and other general lighting applications. It provides a wide range of adjustable output current, while the two output channels can be matched perfectly to the requirements of RGB-W (four-color mixing) lighting applications.
The LM3528TMEV also offers dynamic current regulation that allows for maximum brightness control and uniformity, regardless of input voltage or temperature. It has a wide range of adjustable output current and output voltage, and is capable of driving an LED at up to 40V, and providing up to 3.2A of output current. The wide range of output voltage and current available allows multiple LED types, from the high efficiency type to the high-brightness type, to be driven.
The LM3528TMEV also supports a wide range of adaptive control modes to reduce power consumption while maintaining steady light continuity and uniformity. These modes include constant current mode, pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming mode, analog dimming mode, and PWM and analog dimming combination mode. It is flexible enough to support multi-channel LED drive applications with both PWM dimming and analog dimming without additional external components. This makes it ideal for applications that require dimming and color-on-eg/ dimming organization, such as TV backlighting, digital signage, outdoor lighting and smart home lighting.
The working principle of LM3528TMEV evaluation board is quite simple. It converts the direct current (DC) from the input source into the requisite output voltage and current needed to power the LED. It then uses pulse width modulation (PWM) to modulate the LED’s output. The board’s driver electronics measure the output current at the LED, adjust the output voltage accordingly, and then alter the duty cycle of the PWM to adjust the brightness of the LED. By adjusting the output voltage and current, the LM3528TMEV can be used to drive LEDs at any voltage up to its maximum output voltage rating.
The LM3528TMEV features a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it ideal for operation in a wide variety of environmental conditions.
