The LM3671LC-1.6EV is a voltage regulator evaluation board in the Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS category. This evaluates different types of voltage regulation and power control applications such as guaranteed seamless transfer and operation in cold-start conditions. It is a buck converter with integrated power MOSFETs and voltage feedback. The regulator can deliver load currents up to 10A and convert the input voltage into an output voltage range between 2.7V and 40V with a high efficiency of up to 97%.

The LM3671LC-1.6EV evaluation board can be used to evaluate the LM3671LC-1.6 switching regulator, a low noise DC-DC step-down converter that operates from 3.6V to 40V input voltage range. This device provides a fixed output voltage and is capable of delivering up to 10A of load current for step-down applications. This package also includes several peripheral, such as a current-sensing resistor; a current-setting resistor; and an auxiliary winding for the synchronous rectifier. Additionally, the board incorporates an optional external logic circuit for intelligent powering control as well as user-configurable options for enabling the low-noise mode or current limit.

The working principle of the LM3671LC-1.6EV is based on the peak current mode control technique (PWM). This technique relies on a pulse-width modulation method where the duty cycle of the pulse is determined by the variation of the inductor current between its peak and valley. During the peak of the inductor current, the current-control loop sets the peak current and then the duty cycle of the pulses that control the switching regulator are adjusted to maintain the desired output voltage. This reduces the frequency of the switching activity and therefore improves efficiency and reduces switching losses.

In addition to the peak current mode control, the LM3671LC-1.6EV also includes several features that further improve efficiency and reliability. The device includes soft-start circuitry, which ramps up the output voltage slowly at startup, as well as current limiting, thermal shutdown protection and a guaranteed 7mV of load regulation across the voltage range. Additionally, the board incorporates an optional external logic circuit for intelligent powering control as well as user-configurable options for enabling the low-noise mode or current limit.
