LM431CIM3 Integrated Circuits (ICs)

The LM431 precision adjustable shunt regulator has become a workhorse of the linear voltage reference and voltage regulator market. It has been widely used in many precision and portable applications because of its low cost, wide voltage range, low temperature coefficient, and excellent accuracy. The LM431CIM3 is an improved version of the LM431, with improved line and load regulation, as well as an improved dynamic response.

The LM431CIM3 is a three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator with separate cathode and anode terminals. It operates with a wide range of input voltages from 1.3V to 30V without the need for external components. Unlike ordinary shunt regulators, the LM431CIM3 has two voltage references: a reference voltage, Vref, set by the user with an external resistor, and a minimum operating voltage, Vmin, as set by an internal trim capacitor. The reference voltage is typically set at 4.5V, for a wide range of applications.

The LM431CIM3 also has a low temperature coefficient, allowing it to be used over a wide temperature range. The LM431CIM3 operates in a “soft start” mode, allowing it to slowly increase the current given to the load, preventing excessive stress and voltage/current drops at startup.The LM431CIM3 can also be used to adjust the output voltage of linear regulators. By changing the external resistor, the output voltage of the linear regulator can be adjusted over a wide range. This makes it possible to use the LM431CIM3 to regulate voltages as low as 1.2V or as high as 24V.
