The LM5005EVAL evaluation board is a product within the DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS category. The LM5005EVAL is an ideal choice for evaluating generic buck design applications such as synchronous power supply, DC/DC and AC/DC converters. It is a circuit solution used to step down a high-performance constant-current or voltage power source from a higher voltage to a lower voltage usually within the 1V to 12V range. It is also suitable for applications where the input voltage varies, such as for automotive and other battery-fed systems. The LM5005EVAL is integrated with a few components to more easily set the performance parameters. This evaluation board includes test points that allow users to measure the various voltages and currents needed for evaluation.
The working principle of the LM5005EVAL is simple; it takes an input voltage, either AC or DC, and steps it down to a lower voltage. The board functions as a buck regulator, using transistors, capacitors, diodes and other components to increase the efficiency of the circuit, and also to reduce the ripple and noise, so that performance is maintained. The LM5005EVAL provides the ability to set a constant current, voltage, or load in the buck regulator. This allows the user to rapidly test different parameters to measure the best performance.
The LM5005EVAL board is also designed to have a high degree of flexibility. The board is supplied with an adjustable output voltage or current, allowing the user to set the desired voltage or current levels. This allows users to quickly set the efficiency parameters without needing to modify the application architecture. The board is also configurable with either a synchronous buck or a traditional buck design, as well as a choice of input voltage range. Additionally, the board features a wide output range with a variable output voltage, ripple and noise levels and a PFC feature in support of low-voltage, high-current applications.
