Working Principle of LM5031SDX/NOPB

The LM5031SDX/NOPB works on a flyback control principle. It is a current-mode flyback controller with programmable oscillator frequency, phase shift and power limiting. The controller monitors an internal current-sense comparator voltage to give a tight load current-limit control. It senses inductor current through an external resistor. In combination with the adjustable oscillator frequency and phase-shift control, the LC filter can be optimized to achieve a wide-bandwidth voltage-mode current-conversion loop with fast transient response and minimum EMI for switching converters. The current-limit level is set with an external resistor, to which the internal current-sense comparator voltage is scaled.The LM5031SDX/NOPB regulates output voltage is sensed at the output-terminal and is compared to the internal reference voltage. An error amplifier with an internal compensation network provides good transient response and stability. It is also configurable to operate in open-loop or closed-loop mode for voltage regulation. The device can be programmed for PWM (pulse-width modulation) or PSM (pulse-skipping modulation) mode of regulation.
