LM5026EVAL/NOPB is an evaluation board for a low-power offline SMPS. This device allows users to measure the input/output performance and other parameters of a buck converter before and after tuning of the loop. The board receives a 24Vdc input power from a 5A 24Vdc power supply or from a 24Vac transformer. The measureable parameters include input and output voltages, input/output current, efficiency, and temperature.
The LM5026EVAL/NOPB main component is the LM5026 buck converters with integrated high/low side MOSFETs that are capable of providing up to 1.5A output current. This device integrates an accurate and low-noise current sensing circuit, a high-efficiency synchronous rectifier, a 70µA quiescent current, and an adjustable frequency operation up to 650kHz. The on-board sense resistor is sized for 2A of output current and can be paralleled for larger currents. VSET1 and VSET2 pads on the board provide a means of adjusting the output voltage range up to 60V for the buck converter.
The device utilizes a standard ac/dc rectifier and a synchronous buck converter to generate an output voltage that is adjustable by connecting a potentiometer to the VSET1 and VSET2 pins. The output voltage range can range from 0.4V to 60V with the VSET1 and VSET2 pins connected. The frequency of operation can be adjusted using the on-board frequency set pot. Also included on the board is a thermal management circuit that allows for systems with high output power to be safely operated.
The LM5026EVAL/NOPB has an on-board PFC (power factor correction) circuit that is implemented using a boost converter with an integrated inductor that improves the overall efficiency and power factor of the board. The board is designed with a built-in EMI filter that allows the device to meet the EN55022 Class B emissions requirements. This allows users to operate their system in commercial or office environments without the need for additional EMI filters.
In addition, the LM5026EVAL/NOPB has an integrated passive load regulation circuit that can be used to adjust the output voltage without introducing any load steps. This feature allows for precise voltage control. The board also features an adjustable soft-start feature, which allows for smooth start-up and eliminates inrush current.
The LM5026EVAL/NOPB application field is for high-efficiency offline SMPS applications such as low power laptop adapters, industrial control systems, and telecom power supplies. Its working principle is that the board receives a 24Vdc input power from a 5A 24Vdc power supply or from a 24Vac transformer.
