The LM5030EVAL application field and working principle is highly beneficial for those who need to assess and evaluate DC/DC and AC/DC switch mode power supplies (SMPS). The LM5030EVAL is a high performance, high resolution DC/DC buck converter evaluation board that allows for different offline switch mode power supplies and designs. It has wide input voltage (ranging from 12 V DC to 75 V DC) and adjustable output voltage (ranging from 0.8 V up to 5 V) ranges enabling the design of efficient and reliable switch mode power supply systems.

The LM5030EVAL board is ideal for different offline applications including point of load (POL) or voltage regulator module (VRM) designs, and operates from a 12 V DC to 75 V DC input voltage range. The LM5030EVAL board is capable of delivering 2000 mA of continuous output current at a 0.012v output ripple, eliminating any potential power supply deficiencies. The evaluation board also features protection functions which guard against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, current limit, and short-circuit conditions. The primary design goal of the board is to provide a simple-to-use platform for the evaluation of the LM5030 buck converter, while giving the option of optimizing key design variables.

The LM5030EVAL buck converter evaluation board is connected to the host system via a USB port through a multi-function GUI. The GUI enables graphical display of the output voltage ripple, current waveforms, a comprehensive list of regulator data and functionality, a thermal shutdown test, a monitor output voltage test, and an output voltage regulation test. All the necessary information is displayed for the evaluation board in a simple to understand format.

In addition, the LM5030EVAL board offers a variety of features including temperature compensation for current consumption, automatic self-regulation, output voltage and current monitoring, output current limiting, and built-in power-on reset. The overall operation of the board is also facilitated by the preconfigured component selection, with variable current and voltage ranges available for convenient debugging.

Apart from the features mentioned above, the LM5030EVAL board also supports multiple communication protocol standards such as CAN, SPI, I2C, JTAG, and PC.
