The LM5046EVAL/NOPB is a high-performance evaluation board from Texas Instruments. Designed for use in applications like high-side DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS circuits, it is intended to facilitate the development of high efficiency, low noise and low quiescent current power supplies.

The board’s SMPS circuit is featured on the high-side, Linear Technology LT3092 3-phase Synchronous Buck Regulator, current-mode control voltage-mode (VCM) driver. This high-side buck converter is used to produce an output voltage regulation over a wide input voltage range. In this configuration, LM5046 is capable of delivering up to 61A of output current at an efficiency of up to 95%.
In addition to the high-side buck converter, the LM5046 EVAL/NOPB evaluation board also includes an adjustable linear regulator based on an LT3092. This linear regulator provides precise output voltage control for applications requiring flexibility of output voltage with low ripple and noise.
The linear regulator can be operated with a symmetric or asymmetric input voltage, and separate channel p-channel MOSFETs can be used to provide low quiescent current and fast transient response. A programmable soft-start circuit is also integrated, allowing for smooth start-up operation in applications where the input supply voltage drops below the threshold. The board also includes a power good indication, over-voltage protection, and under-voltage protection.
The LM5046 EVAL/NOPB evaluation board is designed to optimize board layout and reduce board size, making it suitable for applications where space is a concern. The board is also optimized for thermal performance, allowing the user to test their designs with very little effort.
