The LMV358LIDT is the latest in a line of linear amplifiers from National Semiconductor Corporation (NSC). It is a high-performance, low-power amplifier that combines the features of both an instrumentation amplifier (IA) and an operational amplifier (Op Amp). This device is ideal for analog voltage signal conditioning applications in low-voltage, low-power systems.

A linear amplifier is an electrical device which amplifies the input signal without introducing any nonlinear distortion. The linear amplifier can be used to convert the low level signal to a larger level with minor changes in the input signal. Its basic function is to take in a small electrical signal, usually in the form of either an AC or DC voltage, and increase its amplitude.

An instrumentation amplifier (IA) amplifies the difference between two input signals, while rejecting any signals that are common to both input signals. An operational amplifier (Op Amp) is a type of linear amplifier which typically handles higher-power signals than IA’s. It amplifies the difference between two input signals, with very high gain and low noise.

The LMV358LIDT combines the features of both IA and Op Amp technologies, making it ideal for voltage signal conditioning applications in low-voltage, low-power systems. It includes an advanced op amp that provides low-gain flatness and low power dissipation. It also features an on-chip low-noise differential input reference which provides precise gain control, and a micro-power shutdown circuit which can be used to reduce power consumption.

The LMV358LIDT is designed to be used in low-voltage, low-power systems due to its low-voltage operating range. The device is powered by a single supply voltage between 2.7V and 5.5V, and is capable of providing a maximum gain of 45 V/V. The output of the device can be decreased to 0.22V above the negative supply rail, and increased to the same value below the positive supply rail.
