The LNK6774V is a half-bridge high-frequency resonant voltage mode controller designed for off-line flyback applications that require high efficiency, wide load range and low cost. This device is tailored to direct-off-line power supplies that operate with either input rectification or Discontinuous Conduction mode (DCM). The device is ideal for applications where low power dissipation is desired.

The LNK6774V is an integrated IC and features an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) driver, a high voltage start-up circuit, an on-chip comparator, a synthesized oscillator and several levels of programmable microprocessor options. It integrates several features such as a 150ns switch Current Sense (CS), an adjustable operation frequency, and a pulse-by-pulse Current Limit.

The device features a proprietary resonant control method that allows it to achieve high efficiency (> 85%) over a wide range of load conditions, while at the same time providing a smooth transition between different operating states. The LNK6774V\'s design also minimizes EMI noise and allows the use of low cost and low profile components.

The chip integrates a high-voltage startup circuit to reduce start-up current, an overdroop compensation circuit to improve system stability, and a load feed-forward circuit to accurately follow load current variations in high frequency switching applications. Additionally, the LNK6774V has an adjustable output voltage range between 0V and 80V, and a current sense range of up to 120mA.

The device has a working principle that is based on the voltage mode control topology. In this topology, the output voltage is regulated based on the voltage difference between the output and the error amplifier. Basically, the error amplifier generates an error signal that is proportional to the difference between the output voltage and the reference voltage that is applied to it. This error signal is then coupled to the gate of the transistor which then starts to conduct current from the supply.
